Each event flows through an AI agent that can autonomously resolve simple cases, escalate complex ones, and hand off to human agents with full context. No integration tax. No middleware stitching systems together.
Zoom followed with AI Companion 3.0, expanding from a meeting assistant to an enterprise-wide agentic platform. The new version lets organizations build and deploy custom AI agents (no coding required) that act across Salesforce, ServiceNow, Slack, Box, Google Drive, and OneDrive. Prebuilt agents for sales, IT, and marketing ship out of the box. AI Companion monthly active users tripled year-over-year in Q4 FY26, which tells you adoption is real, not just a press release.

Why contact centers are the perfect first deployment
I've thought a lot about why contact centers keep surfacing as the entry point for enterprise agents. It's not just because the pain is obvious (long hold times, repetitive tickets, frustrated customers). It's because the architectural patterns of a contact center map almost perfectly onto what AI agents need to function well.
Here's what I mean.
Structured triggers. Every customer interaction starts with a clear event: a call, a chat, an email. The agent doesn't need to figure out when to activate. The trigger is baked into the workflow.

The reason supply chains work well for agents is similar to contact centers, but with one additional advantage: the decision loops are fast and repetitive.
A supply chain agent doesn't need to understand corporate strategy. It needs to sense a disruption (a port closure, a supplier delay, a demand spike), interpret the data (what's affected, what's the magnitude, what are the options), and act on a decision (reroute shipment, adjust inventory, notify stakeholders). Sense, interpret, act. That loop might execute hundreds of times a day across a large supply chain.
As one industry analysis put it, organizations utilizing agentic AI systems can realize double-digit efficiency gains and reduce decision latency from days to seconds. That's not theoretical. That's the gap between a human supply chain manager reviewing a spreadsheet and an agent processing real-time signals from sensors, weather APIs, and logistics systems simultaneously.

Agents deployed as batch jobs or scheduled tasks tend to underperform because they're solving for efficiency rather than responsiveness.
Pattern 2: Multi-agent coordination with clear roles. The Salesforce contact center doesn't use one monolithic agent. It uses specialized agents for different tasks (triage, resolution, escalation) coordinated through a shared context. Zoom's custom AI agents act across multiple systems with prebuilt agents for distinct functions. The pattern is consistent: multiple agents with narrow roles, coordinated by an orchestration layer.
